Bernard "Buzz" Sylvester, 90, of Derry, died Tuesday May 30, 2017 at his home. He was born October 29, 1926 in Derry a son of the late Angelo and Elvira Galosi Sylvester.

Buzz was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Derry. He was a USArmy WWII veteran. He had retired from Torrance State Hospital and was a life member of B.P.O.E.#907 Latrobe. Buzz enjoyed spending time at the casinos.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Barbara Rose Sylvester, seven brothers; Louis, Patsy, Guido, Anthony, Carl R., Albert "Ab" and Louie Sylvester. Two sisters Elizabeth and Dolores M. Sylvester.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Irene "Beanie" Hamill Sylvester whom he married June 5, 1950, a daughter Linda M. Hoover (Jeff T.) of Middlebourne, WV and his son Bernard "Bernie" J. Sylvester (Barb T.) of Lancaster. Four grandsons; Nathan Campbell, Noah Campbell (Kristen), Jeremiah Campbell ( Liz), and Ben J. Sylvester. Two step grandaughters; Christie Hutson (Nick Alfred) and Courtney Guido (Mark). Three sisters; Ida Herda of Derry, Nancy Bose (Edward) of Stow, Ohio and Mary C. Sylvester of Latrobe. Two step great grandchildren Carter Alfred and Lily Guido. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry where a blessing service will be conducted Saturday at 11am. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Derry. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Derry.

The Latrobe -Derry Honor Guard will conduct a military service Saturday at 10:50 am in the funeral home.
