Derrik John Ankney, 23, of New Derry died suddenly Thursday July 20, 2017 at his home.

He was born December 26, 1993 in Latrobe, a son of Melissa Ann Bellish of New Derry and Keith V. Ankney of Greensburg.

Derrik was a 2012 graduate of Derry Area High School. He had been working as a heavy equipment operator in the gas fields. He was a hard working, kind and quiet man who was loved by all and will be greatly missed. He always enjoyed the times he was able to be camping.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his maternal grandparents John and Mildred Bellish of New Derry, his paternal grandparents Jack Ankney of Blairsville and Elaine Ankney of Latrobe, maternal great- grandmother, Ruby (Bellish) Harris; Two sisters Abbey Bellish and Emma Watters both of New Derry. A special Aunt Melinda and several other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 10am in St. Martin Roman Catholic Church, New Derry with Father Salvatore R. Lamendola as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville.

The rosary will be recited Sunday at 6pm in the funeral home.
