Eleanor Z. Gernat, 98 of Sewickley, formerly of Punxsutawney, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at St. John Specialty Care in Mars, PA. Mrs. Gernat was born March 25, 1918 in Lucernemines, PA., a daughter of the late George and Mary (Valesky) Zentner. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband John Gernat, December 4, 2006. She is survived by two sons; Richard A. Gernat and wife Michelle of Sewickly, Denny J. Gernat and wife Lynda of Tucson, AZ., three grandchildren; Michael, Brad and Doug and two great grandchildren; Jackson and Gracie. Also surviving is one brother; George Zentner of S. Carolina. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Friday, January 20, 2017 at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the funeral home with Joe Buterbaugh officiating. Interment will follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Cemetery.
