Eleanor Louise (Palmer) Lear, 88, of Derry, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at her home.

She was born April 6, 1928 in Derry, a daughter of the late Norman W. and Rosemary (France) Palmer.

While in high school, Eleanor worked at the Halund Defense Plant in Loyalhanna making fuselages for B52 Airplanes.  She attended Greensburg Bible Institute.  Eleanor retired from the Latrobe Area Hospital after 25 years of service in the Food and Nutrition Department. 

Eleanor loved to play games with her children and grandchildren whenever they would come to visit her.  She loved her family very much and will be greatly missed.  When able, Eleanor attended the Hope Evangelical Methodist Church in Youngstown, PA.  She also listened faithfully to Dr. David Jeremiah.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Richard E. Lear; one son, Timothy J. Lear; brothers, Harry Nelson, Norman Wesley and Richard Wayne Palmer; sisters, Thelma Rose (Palmer) Clawson, Ethel Marie (Palmer) Irwin, and Edith Leona (Palmer) Rhodes, and one great-grandson.

Eleanor is survived by a son, Richard E. Lear Jr. and wife, Cheryl; daughters, Patricia and husband Jerry Chandler, Debbie and husband Richard Nye, Ruth Ann and husband Dewey Meyer; daughter-in-law, Linda McKee; sister, Dorothy Mae (Palmer) Gross; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In honoring our mom’s wishes friends will be received on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Ave. Derry.  Private interment will be made in Coles Cemetery, Derry.
