Joan I. Higgs of Ligonier, PA died on September 22, 2017 at Excela Latrobe Hospital. 

She was born April 11, 1939 in Pittsburgh PA to the late Thomas Regis and Frances (Laffey) O’Connor. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Higgs. 

Joan is survived by her three children, Cynthia (Robert) Frayvolt of Derry, Michael (Patricia) Higgs of Bradenville, and Kevin (Kristine) Higgs of Ligonier; five grandchildren Keely Keenan of Latrobe; Robert Frayvolt of Latrobe, Holly (Jason) Brown of Latrobe, Shawn (Nichole) Higgs of New Derry, and Michael (Lindsay) Frayvolt of Derry; ten great grandchildren, Chaeli, Brady, Zoe, Kadence, Allee, Cael, Everly, Kaelyn, Charly, and Khylie; a sister, Carol (Sam) Berry of Glenshaw, and a brother Tom O’Connor of Pittsburgh.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. 

Friends will be received Sunday from 2:00-8:00 pm at McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W Third Ave., Derry.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday at St. Martin Parish, New Derry, with Father Salvatore R. Lamendola as celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. Martin Cemetery, New Derry.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, an organization that was close to Joanie’s heart.
