Murray Kellar Steffey Jr., 79, passed on to eternal life with our Lord Savior Jesus Christ on October 17, 2016. He was born June 28, 1937 in Indiana, PA to the late Murray K. Steffey Sr. and Kathryn L. (Fisher) Steffey. He enjoyed playing football, hunting, and being with his friends. He graduated from Indiana High School in 1955. After graduation, Murray joined the Navy. His basic training was completed at Bainbridge, Maryland. In July 1958, "Steff" played defensive tackle for semi-pro football team known as the Jaguars based out of the Key West Athletic Club. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1959.

He married his loving wife Elin Butterworth at St. Johns Methodist Church in Barnesboro, PA on February 26, 1960. They lived a short time in Indiana, PA. The next move was a move to Punxsutawney, PA. In 1967, Murray and Elin opened Steffey's Meat Market which was located "around the bend in East End". After a fire in 1987, the store was remodeled and reopened as Steffey's Deli. Murray's love for cooking was well known throughout the community. Murray and Elin retired in 1999 to enjoy spending more time with his family and grandchildren. There are no words to express his compassionate love for his children and grandchildren. Murray and Elin held a Monday night Bible study in their home for many years. The Bible study was led by Dr. James Fugate and his wife Mary. Many people's lives were changed during this time. Murray was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Mission committee and was able to go to Haiti on a Mission trip.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, God blessed them with 3 sons; Thomas M. Steffey and wife Martha of Punxsutawney, PA, Timothy K. Steffey and wife Cindy of Punxsutawney, PA, and Mark A.
