Tressa M. "Terry" Merritts, 70 of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at Punxsutawney Area Hospital. Terry was born December 19, 1946 in Altoona, a daughter of the late Ralph and Pearl (McDonnell) Leipold. She worked in the Assessment office of the Jefferson County Courthouse and later for Community Action before retiring. She was very active in the Jefferson County Republican Party. Terry loved spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting and going to yard sales. She was preceded in death by her husband Eston "Shorty" Merritts on March 1, 2017. They were married 45 years. A loving mother of Scotty Merritts and wife Holly of Mahaffey, Amy Heigley and husband Todd of Walston, four beloved grandchildren; Jordan and Kruz Merritts and Ryen and Kaden Heigley. Two brother's William Leipold and wife Pat of St. Louis, MO., Richard Leipold of Altoona, one sister; Bonnie Angermeier and husband Ken of Canton, OH and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Eston, she was preceded in death by a brother; Robert Leipold. Friends will be received from 3-5 pm Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney where a funeral service will be held at 5 pm with Pastor Clint Phillips officiating.
