William B. Carey, 74 of Punxsutawney passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Carey was born January 29, 1942 in Dayton, PA. a son of the late George L. and Alice B. (Lydic) Carey.

William was a member of the Canoe Ridge Church of God and a veteran of the US Navy. He worked in the coal mines and was a driver for Schwann's for 11 years before retiring. Bill was also the former Captain of the McCalmont Twp. Fire Station #16.

He is survived by his loving wife Shirley A. (Richardson) Carey of Punxsutawney.

In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by three sons; William F. Carey and wife Jill, Steven M. Carey and wife Tracy and Mark D. Carey all of Punxsutawney, one step daughter; Sherry Diane McAfee also of Punxsutawney, one brother; Larry D. Carey and wife Sue and one sister; Betty Joan Johnston and husband Ben all of Erie, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his companion dog "Chloe".

He was preceded in death by two brothers; George Carey Jr. and Edward G. Carey.

All arrangements are private and under the direction of the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.
