Nancy L. Shomo Levay, 93, of Derry, died peacefully Sunday January 14, 2024 in the comfort of her home. She was born August 30, 1930 in Latrobe a daughter of the late Harry and Clara Long Cowan.
She was a life long active member of the Derry First United Methodist Church and had served on several boards and committees. She was a 1948 graduate of Derry Boro High School and was the first women to serve on Derry Boro Council from 1972-1983 and received many accommodations from the Westmoreland County Commissioners, the PA Senate and House of Representatives. For many years Nancy had volunteered for the Westmoreland County Food Bank.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Edward "Ted" Shomo and her second husband W. Ray Levay and her sister May Ryan.
She is survived by her children; Thomas E. Shomo (Terri L.) of Gray Station, Janet A. Campbell (John F.) of N. Huntingdon and James D. Shomo of Joppa, Maryland, grandchildren ; Amy Dominick (Bob), Brian and Josh Shomo, great grandchildren; Chelsea Marie, Emily Anne and Danielle Jo Dominick. Step children; Raymond "RT" Levay (Trisha) of Latrobe, Richard Levay (Christine) of Greensburg and Patti Lynn Levay of Latrobe, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11 am at the Derry First United Methodist Church with her pastor Reverend Jason Schweinberg officiating. Interment will be made in the Coles Cemetery, Derry.
