Anna Mary Cobes, 99, of Derry, died Tuesday June 11, 2019 in Excela Latrobe Hospital. She was born September 2, 1919 in Derry a daughter of the late Chalmer Bert and Bertha Lantz Shaffer.
She was a member of the Derry First United Methodist Church where she had served on the finance committee, taught Sunday school, was president of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class, was a trustee and treasurer. She was a 1937 graduate of Derry Boro High School a 1940 graduate of Latrobe Hospital Nursing School and had worked for Dr. O.P. Oliver for 28 years and Derry Medical for 29 years. Anna Mary had been on the Coles Cemetery Board of Directors for many years and belonged to the White Shrine of Jerusaleum.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband P. Wayne Cobes in 1973, a sister Audrey Humphreys and a brother Chalmer B. Shaffer.
Anna Mary is survived by her sister Eleanor Rupert of Derry, a niece Kimberly McWherter and her husband Richard of Derry, 2 great nephews; Nathaniel and Ian McWherter (Kindall) and one great great nephew Wells.
Friends will be received Friday from 4-7pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue Derry. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11am in the Derry First United Methodist Church with her pastor the Reverand Ron Emery officiating. Interment will be made in the Coles Cemetery, Derry.
