Donald E. Holzer, 93, of Ligonier died Wednesday July 26, 2017 in the Bethlen Home. He was born September 1, 1923 in Latrobe, a son of the late William A. and Esther S. Shumar Holzer.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 67 years Margaret J. Blair Holzer in 2014, three brothers; Richard, Walter and Robert Holzer.

Don was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church of Ligonier where he had been active as a trustee, with the spaghetti dinners and on the church bowling team. A WWII US Army Seargent he had served throughout Europe. In 1986 he retired after 45 years of service from Kennametal where he had been a supervisor. Family was very important to Don. He was well known as a cabinet maker and was a member of Loyalhanna Masonic Lodge #275, Latrobe.

He is survived by his three sons; Donald E. Holzer Jr. (Linda) of Ringoes, NJ, Kurt B. Holzer of Ligonier and Chris L. Holzer (Jill) of Lansdowne. Two sisters Ethel and Rosella Holzer both of Latrobe. A grandson Derek E. Holzer of Queens, NY, several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue Derry. Additional viewing will be Tuesday from 10-11am in the Calvary United Methodist Church, Ligonier, where a service will be conducted at 11am with Pastor Josh Ricketts officiating. Interment will follow in the Ligonier Valley Cemetery.
