Josephine Sylvester, 95, of Derry, died peacefully May 30, 2017 in the Bethlen Home, Ligonier, with her family at her side. She was born January 29, 1922 in Derry a daughter of the late Samuel and Crocifissa Varrato Mastrorocco.

Josephine was a faithful member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Derry. She and her husband formerly owned and operated the Market Spot from 1946-1979 and Foodland from 1979-1993 in Ligonier. Her greatest pleasures in life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Fernando "Ferd" Sylvester, her son-in-law Edward "Tim" Deglau, three brothers; Samuel, Vincent and Nicholas "Nick" Mastrorocco. Five sisters; Elvira Bell, Margaret Bucci, Alice DelCostello, Aqualina Bucci and Virginia Pirillo.

Josephine is survived by her loving family; daughter Janet Deglau of Derry, son Thomas "Tom" Sylvester (Dee) of Derry, grandchildren; Tim Deglau (Stephanie), Amy Balko (Jon), Tom Sylvester Jr. (Raelyn), Scott Sylvester (Bethany) and Kelly Cooper (Zac). Great grandchildren; Ally, Nate and Bree Deglau, Madi and Ella Balko, Aiden Sylvester and the Cooper twins this November.

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received Saturday from 6-8pm and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 11am in the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Derry. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
