Marilyn Elizabeth Weightman, a lifelong resident of Penn Township died peacefully at her home February 6, 2018. A 1947 graduate of Penn Twp. HS and 1951 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a BS in chemistry. She retired in 1984 from the Elliott Co. as a chemist and Senior Materials Engineer.
Marilyn was fond of the outdoors, and especially loved sailing. She often recounted happy memories of a sailing trip around the Caribbean, during which she proudly took the wheel several times. She also enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking and a glass of wine or beer.
She was a member of the National Historical Society and Tall Ships America, as well as a lifetime member of the Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society. She contributed to the Western PA Conservancy, numerous animal and wildlife charities, and other humane causes.
Preceded in death by parents John Henry and Lillian Annette Loughner Weightman, lifelong companion Shirley Howard, siblings Lila M. Regina, John W. "Bud" and Paul Weightman. Survived by nieces, nephews and extended family. As well as numerous friends and neighbors in the Penn Twp. area.
A very special thank you from Marilyn's family goes to Bill Berchick for his care and friendship to her over the years. Though she was fiercely independent and very competent, Marilyn would have been lost without all of Bill's help and kindness.
