Richard Ashley Obituary

Richard C. Ashley, 93, of Derry died Tuesday February 6, 2018 in Excela Latrobe Hospital. He was born November 3, 1924 in Windber a son of the late Wallace and Thelma Penrod Ashley.

Dick was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Derry where he had been an usher for many years. He was a WWII veteran having served as a flight officer in the Army Air Corps and had retired from Latrobe Steel. He was a good athlete and had a great sense of humor.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Marguerite "Skee" Kinkead Ashley, a daughter Lynn Ramsden and her husband Karl, his brothers Wallace and Dewey Ashley and two of his sisters Martha Zeunges and Peggy Showers.

Dick is survived by his loving family; son Keith Ashley of Ligonier, daughters JoAnn Ridilla (James Jr.) of Latrobe and Lori Chendy of Greensburg. His sister Shirley Stickle of Latrobe, four grandchildren; Alicia Taluskie (Michael), Molly Clayton (William), Lauren and Zach Ashley. Five great grandchildren; Camdon Lafferty, Drake Clayton, Eli and Alli Taluskie and Kalvin Clayton. His longtime companion Pat "Tula" Geary of Derry, Numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the entire Geary family for the love and care they have extended to Dick over the years.

Friends will be received Thursday from 5-8pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 11am in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Derry with Father Salvatore R. Lamendola as celebrant. Interment will be made in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery.

The Latrobe-Derry Veterans Honor Guard will conduct a service Friday at 10am in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Church building fund or Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
