Betty Louise Bennett, 99, of Burnt Chimney Farm, Cook Township, PA passed away Monday, August 25, 2025, at Bethlen Home, Ligonier Township, PA. Betty was born on July 12, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA; she was the daughter of the lat Alvin James and Isabel Hartranft Schallus. Betty married Denman T. Bennett on March 16, 1945 and they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Denny Bennett died on September 4, 2011.
Betty had been raised in the Presbyterian faith. In her youth, she enjoyed and excelled at swimming, diving and later, tennis. Betty spent many years in Greensburg helping Denny, as they started and grew their business, Benco Building Products, Inc. They moved to Burnt Chimney Farm in 1986.
Betty delighted in caring for her three sons and their families; whether baking greatly anticipated sweet rolls for Easter and Christmas or zucchini relish and tasty herb bread with the vegetables and herbs grown on the farm. Betty's flower garden was special, too; pretty enough to once warrant a spot on the Horticultural Society of Western Pennsylvania tour! Betty knitted beautiful sweaters from the yarn that she had spun, from the sheep that she had raised and she still found time to mow the yard.
Survivors include her loving children James L. (Linda) Bennett, of Greensburg, PA, Dennis G. (Susan) Bennnett, of Ligonier, PA and David W. (Donna Douglass) Bennett of Girard, PA; her four grandchildren, Jeffrey J. (Priscilla) Bennett of Orchard Park, NY, Jody L. Bennett (Shaun Manus) of Lake Lure, NC, Suzanne J. Bennett of Ligonier and William D. Bennett of Brevard, NC. She is survived by five great-grandchildren who adored their "GG": William P. Bennett and Andrew G. Bennett of Orchard Park, NY, Wilhemina P. Bennett and Lucia J. Bennett of High Point, NC and Lucas D. Bennett of Brevard, NC. Betty is also survived by her sister Nancy Schallus and her niece Gale Dunkin Knox. She was preceded in death by her sister Marjory Schallus Dunkin. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to LuAnn Nixon for many years of friendship and loving care for Betty. Thanks, also go to her caregiver Denise Kalp and to the staff at Bethlen Home.
A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, Cook Township, PA followed by interment beside her beloved Denny.
