Carol (Single) Stilley

Carol Single Stilley, 83, of Pittsburgh formerly of Ligonier, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on January 12, 2025.
Beloved wife of the late J. William ("Bill") Stilley.  Loving mother of the late Claire L. Stilley and John C. (Elizabeth) Stilley. Dear grandmother of William "Bill" Stilley.  Sister of Robert (Kathy) Single and Jean Frasier of Rochester, NY.
Born in Rochester, NY, Carol graduated from the University of Rochester and continued her education at Columbia University where she earned her Bachelor's of Nursing degree and met her future husband Bill who was also attending Columbia for medical school.  After marrying and relocating to Pittsburgh, Bill and Carol started their family before relocating to Ligonier in 1973.   After dedicating her early life to her family and becoming unexpectedly widowed in 1987, she then returned to school at the University of Pittsburgh earning her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the School of Education in 1997.  Carol was an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing where she taught and conducted research for 18 years until she retired in 2016.
Carol enjoyed traveling the world with her daughter, and was a proud owner of several basset hounds over the years.  She treasured spending time with her family, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Friends will be received Friday January 24, 2025, from 4-7 pm at the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier. Private services and interment will be made at the St. Michael's Cemetery, Rector.
 In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Asbury Heights Foundation or the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing.
