Charles A Fagan III

July 1936 – February 2025

Born in Pittsburgh in July 1936, Charles A Fagan III lived in the City until he attended Phillips Academy Andover for two years and then Yale University. Following graduation from Yale, he spent two years as a Tactical Officer at Fort Benning (US Army). He married Ann Ebbert in 1961 and they had three children, Lisa (Jim Wallace), Charles (Chas) and James (JK). His business career began with ten years at Federated Investors in Pittsburgh, after which he joined the Nixon campaign in 1968. He was appointed Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce and later moved his family to Belgium when he was appointed the U.S. Government representative in Europe responsible for the promotion of direct European industrial investments in the United States.  He subsequently joined an international management consulting firm in Belgium and returned to Ligonier, PA where he started his own international consulting firm in 1977. He married Stephanie Bronder in 1993 and ran his successful consulting business until he retired in 2017.

Charlie served as a Trustee on the Boards of Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, The American University in Bulgaria, Hôpital Albert Schweitzer in Haiti, Winterthur Museum in Delaware for three years and Fort Ligonier in Pennsylvania in various capacities for 44 years. He was a member of the Knights of Malta and finally registered in its rolls with the rank of Grand Cross of Magistral Grace in 2023.

Charlie continued to travel throughout the United States and Europe into his 80’s and maintained correspondence with good friends abroad and domestically. He loved Cape Cod, antiques, fine art, and especially Eatons’ Ranch in Wyoming as he was a fine horseman.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Stephanie; his three children, Lisa (Jim), Chas (Katie) and JK (Heidi), nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
