David A. Murphy, 85, of Fairfield Twp., died Wednesday October 15, 2025 at his home. He was born November 13, 1939 to George Albert (Pat) and Jean Galbraith Murphy on a farm in Fairfield Twp., New Florence, PA.
After high school he completed the higher Accounting and Administration course at Cambria Rowe Business College in Johnstown and then joined th US Navy studying electronics and served aboard the U.S.S. Bennington and the U.S.S. Saint Paul being discharged as an Electronics Technician Radar 2nd Class. Upon leaving the Navy he joined the National Cash Register Co, and serviced cash registers and electronic accounting machines. David retired as Regional Manager for American Paper Products Co. in Youngstown, Ohio. He had been a lifelong Presbyterian having served as an elder and clerk of session for the former W. Fairfield Presbyterian Church merging with the New Florence Trinity Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Bolivar American Legion. He loved the outdoors and most of all being with the land whether it be cutting grass or harvesting crops on his boyhood farm.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers; Robert, John and James Murphy and his sisters Doris Buchleitner and Mary Decker.
He is survived by his loving wife whom he married June 25, 1966 Ingrid Graham (daughter of the late Craig and Esther Graham), his daughters; Erin Anderson (Stephen), Marsha and Mandy Murphy, grandchildren; Casey Anderson, Kyle Neumann, Autumn Anderson and Nicole Neuman, numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 4-7 pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier where his funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11am. Interment will follow in the Fairfield Cemetery.
The Ligonier Valley Veterans Honor Guard will present a service Wednesday at 6:45pm in the funeral home.
