Donald Dell Obituary

Donald Bert Dell, 71, of Loyalhanna, Derry Township, passed away peacefully at Select Specialty Hospital in Latrobe, PA on Thursday, October 17, 2024.

Don, and to old friends, “Sug”, short for Sugar, was born October 28, 1952, at Latrobe Hospital to the late Irene (Stouffer) Dell and Kenneth Dell.

He graduated from Derry Area High School in 1970 and worked for the Derry Borough Municipal Authority for 47 years, until his retirement in 2018. Don was a National Guardsman in the past.  Over the years, he enjoyed various hobbies and activities such as shuffleboard, softball, music and attending concerts, going to the beach, attending Pittsburgh Penguins games, watching football, especially attending Pitt Panther games with his son, Donnie. Don enjoyed attending sports memorabilia shows and getting autographs from his favorite sports players through the years, and proudly hung them on his wall. He spent time with his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sports events and other activities. Don spent most of his time with the love of his life, his wife of 34 years, Dorothy Dell, and their “The Notebook” love continued to Don’s last breath.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Byron “Mike” Dell, and nephew, Shawn Connor.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy J. (Thomas) Dell; son, Donald “Donnie” Dell; stepdaughters, Melissa (Steele) Kelly, Tracey Ankeny (Les), and Andrea Walker (Diontae); grandchildren, Savannah Steele-Payne, Halie Ankeny, Dylan Kelly, Deja Walker, Nariah Walker, Markeece Walker, Leocadia Branche, and Trace Walker; his sisters, Shirley Connor (Edward,Decd.) and Bonnie Dell; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family; and his beloved pets, his English Cream Golden Retriever, Brooks, and cat, Lacey.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Select Specialty Hospital in Latrobe for their wonderful care and kindness.

There will be no public visitation or service, per Don’s wishes. Arrangements are being handled by McCabe Funeral Home in Derry, PA.
