Donald Edward Lupyan, 67, of Derry, passed away surrounded by all of his children Saturday, June 29 in Independence Health System Westmoreland. He was born October 3, 1956, in Latrobe a son of Edward and Mary (Hirko) Lupyan. Don worked for Coal Loaders, Inc for 35 years. He initially was hired to manage the company's railroad siding in Derry, Pa. In addition to that responsibility, he was successful in finding other projects for Coal Loaders including coal extraction and reclamation. These projects lead to the first of many surface mining operations for the company which became the core of Coal Loader's operations. Throughout the years he was promoted from Superintendent to General Manager, and eventually Vice President. Under his management the company won a number of Reclamation Awards including a Special Excellence in Surface Coal Mining and Reclamation Award presented by The Department of the Interior. Don took great pride in his employee's efforts. Outside of his career Don was a great family man, he cherished his time with his granddaughters. He enjoyed back yard barbeques and parties with friends and family. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and a dedicated Penn State football fan.
Don is survived by his father Edward Lupyan of New Alexandria, his daughter Candice Gaddy (Larry) of Frederick MD, his sons Christopher Lupyan (Julie) of Latrobe, A.J. Filloy (Eileen) of Oak Ridge NC. and Dustin Filloy and girlfriend Jamill Bivins of McKees Rocks, his siblings; Diane Coleman of Ligonier, Dennis "Moses" Lupyan (Kelly) of Wilmington NC. Craig Lupyan (Mindy) of Blairsville and Michael Lupyan (Melanie) of Blairsville, six grandchildren Layne, Caris, Mike, Ryan, Cody and Trevor, two great grandchildren Addison and Avery and his beloved dog Zoey. Don is preceded in death by his beloved wife Lisa (Buscaglio) Lupyan on December 2, 2023, his mother Mary and brother-In-law Kevin Coleman. Family will receive friends Monday July 8, 2024, from 4 to 7 pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 West Third Ave., Derry, for a memorial and life celebration. Interment will be made in St. Mary Cemetery, Latrobe Tuesday July 9 at 10 AM (Everyone is to go directly to the cemetery).
