Elizabeth Mickinak Obituary

Elizabeth Campbell Mickinak of Ligonier passed away peacefully with family on January 9th, 2026.  She was born on February 26th, 1947, in East Pike Run, PA, the daughter of DeWayne Edwin Campbell, Sr. and Sylvia Mae (Hollowood) Campbell, both of California, PA. As the oldest of 7 children, she was both a sister and a matriarch.  She was proceeded in death by both her parents as well as her son, Ryan John Mickinak in 2013 and her brother DeWayne Edwin Campbell, Jr.

She was tirelessly committed to her family and community.  She was the owner of both Pathfinder Photo and The Frame Place.  As a part of the merchant community, she served on a number of committees and helped to establish events such Trick or Treating on the Town and Ligonier Walking map.  She was the mile coordinator in Hands Across America and was one of the Make-a-Wish volunteers of the year in 1987.  She founded the Council on Organ Donor Education in an effort to support organ donations largely driven by her son’s battle to find a kidney.

She was passionate about history.  She was a member of the Chestnut Ridge Historical Society where she served as an officer and regular volunteer.  She was proud of her own family history, including her family’s role in founding the annual Flax Scutching Festival and served as a committee member.

She is survived by loving and dedicated husband Richard John Mickinak (whom she married on December 21st, 1968) and her children: Alan Richard Mickinak of Ligonier, Amy Mickinak (John) Tokesky of Latrobe, and Jill Mickinak (Marc) Locco of Waldorf, MD and her 9 grandchildren: Campbell Locco, William Locco, Andrew Locco, Owen Tokesky, Isabelle Locco, Aili Mickinak, Anna Tokesky, Mariah Locco, and Ian Mickinak and her 5 sisters: Marylee Ilminen, Vicki Gerou, Kimberly McMillie, Kristine Heussner, and Dawna Campbell.

The family will be holding a private memorial.  A celebration of her life will be held for friends and family at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chestnut Ridge Historical Society or the Make-A-Wish foundation in honor would be appreciated.
