Elsie McDowell Obituary

Elsie L. McDowell, 84, of Derry, passed away September 21, 2022 at her home. She was born December 19, 1937 in Coraopolis, PA a daughter of the late Russel and Ethel (Fetter) Burkholder.
Elsie was retired from Latrobe Hospital. In her free time she enjoyed playing cards, gambling, crocheting, working on puzzles and spending time with her family.
Elsie is survived by her children; Gary McDowell (Vicki Ungerleider), Janet Myers (Timothy), Margaret "Peggy" Kelly (Jason), Dianna Marcinik (William), and Karen Smetak (Herbert Henning), surviving siblings; Alice Baker, Karen Berth and Wilbert Bjorkland, eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and a dear friend Sally Guy. Elsie was very appreciative of the great care given to her by her grandson James Ribblet and Amber Mauck of the Excela Latrobe Hospice.
In addition to her parents Elsie is preceded in death by her husband James L. McDowell and son Jeffrey A. McDowell and a grandson Justin Smetak.
Family will receive friends Sunday, September 25, 2022, in the McCabe Funeral Home 300 West Third Ave , Derry from 3 to 6 pm, where a service will be held at 10 am, Monday, September 26. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
