Frederick O. Griffith

Frederick Odell Griffith went home to our Lord on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at the age of 94.  Fred was born on December 23, 1931 as the third child to Joseph Arnold and Carrie Susan [nee: Schrock] Griffith.

As a youth, Fred was raised in Monroeville, PA and enjoyed weekend visits to his grandparents in Jennerstown, PA.  Fred graduated from Turtle Creek High School and served in the Army in post-WWII Germany.  After the military, Fred attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA, which is where he met the love of his life, Sharon Shiflett.  Fred graduated with a law degree in 1959 and returned to western Pennsylvania to ply his trade.  Over the next quarter-century, Fred grew his law practice while simultaneously holding positions with Pittsburgh National Bank and the Westmoreland Hospital.

On July 5, 1960, Fred and Sharon married in Wewoka, OK and were constant companions for the next sixty-six years.  Fred and Sharon served as managers of the LaQuinta Inn in North Charleston, SC from the mid-1980s until their retirement in 2005.  Fred and Sharon spent the majority of their retirement enjoying the beauty and splendor of Fred’s beloved South Carolina.  They recently returned to the Greensburg area when health and mobility became an issue.

Fred was a long-time member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ during his time in Pennsylvania and continued to follow his faith watching many pastors on-line in his later years.

Of all his successes, Fred’s fondest endeavors were of being a devoted family man – a loving Husband and Dad, a cherished Grandfather and Great-grandfather.  His greatest enjoyments were spending time with his family, making memories, and retelling past memories.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; his two daughters Marla (Charles) Dahlmann and Elizabeth (Joseph) Rosato; four grandchildren, Heather Grandinette, Stacey [nee: Grandinette] (James) Munchel, Kristin Rosato, and Carrie Dahlmann (Iagaro Gayoso); and seven great-grandchildren, Avery Kutzner, Lorenzo Gayoso, Gianna Gayoso, Sophia Gayoso, Addison Munchel, and Emilio Gayoso.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dr. Joseph Blaine Griffith of Sewickley, and his sister, Betty Yvonne Nincke of Ligonier.

Fred was always known for his engaging personality, intellectual demeanor, wry wit, and being a positive influence on those around him.  He will be remembered for his love of God, family, and country.  He will be greatly missed.

Fred’s family wishes to express sincere appreciation to their many friends, family, and caregivers who provided such incredible care and comfort during their time of need.

A private family viewing will be held at McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. 3rd Avenue, Derry, PA on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM immediately followed by the funeral service.  Interment will be at the Jenners Baptist Church Cemetery, Jenners Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
