Glenn G. Henderson

Glenn Grant Henderson, 94, of Latrobe, passed away in his sleep during the early hours of Saturday June 13, 2026. He was born in Fairfield Township on April 20, 1932, to the late Dallas and Mildred (Knupp) Henderson. He was a member of Bethany Church in Latrobe. Glenn graduated from Ligonier High School and worked at Derry Westinghouse briefly before being drafted into the Army during the Korean War, where he served in Italy as a Corporal in the Military Police. After returning home, he worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator for Adam Eidermiller and was proud to be a lifetime member of International Operating Engineer, Local 66, since 1957. From the time he could drive, cars were always an important part of his life, even to the point of experimenting with drag racing and stock car racing in his younger years. Over his lifetime, he owned a number of classic cars. His 50 Ford has sat in the garage for the last 69 years. After his stint in the Army, he expanded his interest to flying and earned his license to fly at Latrobe Airport where he became a flight instructor. Eventually, with his wife's encouragement, Glenn went to school for his commercial pilot's license and worked as a professional pilot for various corporations for the rest of his career. Retirement was not a word that Glenn really understood. He always had “a plan” and his wife, Joan, was always there to help him implement it until her death in 2025. Together they greatly enjoyed traveling in their motor home, often taking their grandchildren with them, and as they grew older, taking it to local parks to spend weekends socializing with other campers. The holidays, spent with his ever growing family, were always special. During his last years, he doted on his Boston Terriers and they became the highlight of his day. Up until the last few weeks of his life, he was fortunate to live independently with the help of his adoring family. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Joan (Glessner) Henderson, an infant granddaughter, Brooke Bailey, his sister Sara Clark, and brothers Donald and Edwin Henderson. He is survived by his five loving children: Brian (Pam) Henderson, Brenda (Bruce) Mull, Beth Bailey, Barbara (Joseph) Swezey, and Brad Henderson; eight grandchildren: Victoria (Rob) Higbee, David Henderson, Taylor (Chris) Haray, Chris (Morgan) Mull, Lauren (Ken) Scovern, Max Henderson, Bethany (Josh) Bailey, and Owen Henderson; and seven great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Olivia, and Noah Higbee, Jaxson, Bella, and Natalie Scovern, and Michael Haray; sister Carolyn (Willard) Dillon, sister-in-law Eda Henderson, and brother-in-law Basil (Bud) Brownfield, several nieces and nephews, as well as his favorite companion, his Boston Terrier, Turbo. Family and friends will be received on Monday June 15, 2026, from 4 to 7 pm at McCabe Funeral Home, 144 E. Main Street, Ligonier, PA 15658. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Interment will follow at Fort Palmer Cemetery.

The Ligonier Valley Veterans Honor Guard will present a service Monday at 6:45 pm in the funeral home.
