Hazel Laughner, 89, passed away Tuesday October 24, 2023 at her home in Latrobe. She was married for 59 years to her faithful husband, Clarence, who precedes her in death. Hazel was born June 30, 1934 in Ligonier, daughter of the late Harry and Minnie (Lenhart) Ament. and grew up on a dairy farm which instilled in her, a life long joy for gardening. She was a long time active member of the Fort Palmer Church where she served for 30 years as financial secretary. Hazel and Clarence enjoyed many years with and developed close friendships as members of National Campers & Hikers Association for which they served in various officer capacities at both the local and state level. Hazel was a current active volunteer of the Linus Project which makes blankets for children who are ill or otherwise in need. At last count she participated in making nearly 500 blankets.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by an infant daughter, brothers Lawrence (Marjorie) Ament, Dean (Lois) Ament, Glenn (Jane) Ament, twin Harold (Mary) Ament, Robert (Dorothy) Ament and sister Ida Mae (Norman) Springer.
She is survived by daughters Barbara Mulligan (Richard(deceased)), Patricia Spirko (Andy) and son James Laughner (Lynn); grandchildren John Mulligan (Lela), Brian Mulligan (Susan), Brendan (Hailey), Katrina Mayle (Greg) and Joshua Laughner as well as great grandchildren Mackenzie and Kolson Mulligan; Ripley Mulligan; Norah and Nolan Spirko; Miles, Macie and Murry Batchelor.
Friends will be received Sunday from 4-7pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11:30am in the Fort Palmer Presbyterian Church with her pastor the Reverend Dr. J. Paul McCracken officiating. Interment will follow in the Fort Palmer Cemetery.
