Irene Sylvester Obituary

Irene Louise "Beanie" Hamill Sylvester, 95, died December 5, 2024.  She was born February 28, 1929, in Torrance, a daughter of George J. and Alice Yonker Hamill.  She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. Irene was the last remaining member of her immediate family.  She was retired from Torrance State Hospital where she worked as a secretary in the maintenance office. Beanie was known for her ornery personality, quick wit and giving spirit.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara R. Sylvester (2010), her husband of 67 years Bernard "Buzz" Sylvester (2017), brothers and sisters Paul, Helen Bailey, John, Joe, George, Alice Connor and Jane Sauers.  She is survived by her daughter Linda Hoover (Jeff) of Winston Salem, NC and her son Bernard "Bernie" Sylvester (Barb) of Lancaster, PA.  Four grandsons Nathan Campbell, Noah Campbell, (Kristen, whom she considered her granddaughter), Jeremiah Campbell (Liz, whom she considered her granddaughter) and Ben Sylvester.  Five great-grandchildren Tate, Max, Bennett, Titan and Isabella. Two step grandchildren Christie Alfred (Nick) and Courtney Guido (Mark) and great-grandchildren Carter and Kennedy Alfred and Lily and Lucas Guido and numerous nieces and nephews. Family extends a special thanks to Paula Richards whom Irene considered as a daughter, her best friends Jane Richards and Jane Geary; and wonderful neighbors and friends Charlie and Lugene Amond, Tom and Debbie Werner, Jake and Bobbie Richards for loving Irene and helping out at a moment's notice. Family will receive friends Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, Derry where a Blessing Service will be celebrated at 10 AM, Friday. Interment will be made in St. Joseph Cemetery, Derry. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church. Online condolences may be made to mccabefuneralhomespa.com
