Jay Love Obituary

Jay "Dick" Love, or Pop, as he was better known, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024 at the age of 79, after a valiant fight with cancer. Dick had many passions. He was a man who was known for his love of the outdoors, and spent his life immersed in nature, finding joy in the thrill of the hunt and the quiet solitude of the woods and his beloved farm. Pop also loved to garden, can his produce and cook; and he was great at all of it. His garden was the stuff of legends; but, his growing skills were secondary to his giving nature as he loved to share his produce grown from seed and to share his gardening knowledge with others.  He felt both pride and humility in the way he lived his life which he passed on to his children and grandchildren, as his family was what he lived for and fought so hard to stay with.

Beyond his love for the outdoors and gardening, Dick worked for many years at ICI of Derry, Tubmill Farms, Rolling Rock Farms and owned H&L Custom Sawing with his dear friend, Earl Hoover.

Dick was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born in Ligonier to Lenora K Buell Love and Meade P. Love. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jody Darr Love. Daughters Sharyn (Rich) Sullivan of Holsopple and Jeanie (Jim) Horrell of New Florence and his grandchildren, Jack, Meghan and Rachel Horrell. He is also survived by a very special cousin and friend, Sue Love, who he loved sitting on the porch with and reminiscing about years past. Lastly, he is survived by his sister-in-law and husband, Laurie (Bill) Shaulis and brother-in-law and wife, John (Christy) Darr, along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 4-7 pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier where a service will be conducted Wednesday at 11am. Private interment will follow in the Fort Palmer Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church or the Fairfield Fire Department.
