Joan G. Henderson, 87, of Latrobe, died Saturday January 25, 2025 at Independence Westmoreland Hospital. She was born July 17, 1937 in Boswell, a daughter of the late Millard and Margaret Thomas Glessner.
Joan grew up in Ligonier where while in high school in the 50's she was well known for her job working behind the soda fountain in Moonly's Drug store on the Diamond. Soon after she married Glenn and together they had five children. Joan devoted her life to raising her children into wonderful adults, something that she was most proud of in her later years. Joan worked various positions in retail during her life, her favorite as an associate at Wedding World. Her last and most rewarding job was taking care of two little girls from the time they were infants through high school. Jamie Huemme, and Andrea Sutyak became her "adopted daughters" and still refer to her as "Mommy Joan". Joan was a warm and loving person who was very creative and could do almost anything anyone asked her to do, from altering clothes to painting to creating beautiful flower arrangements. She and her husband lived in seven different house's and she turned each one into a warm and inviting home. Her love for her husband of sixty-five years and for her family was evident every day of her life, as was her love these last ten years for her two Boston Terriers, Radar and Turbo. Joan was a member of Bethany Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter Brooke Bailey and her sisters Pat Hanlin and Mary "Butch" Brownfield.
Joan is survived by her loving family; her husband of sixty-five years Glenn G. Henderson, children; Brian Henderson (Pam) of Latrobe, Brenda Mull (Bruce) of Norvelt, Beth Bailey of Johnstown, Barbara Swezey (Joe) of Latrobe and Brad Henderson of Walkersville, Maryland, grandchildren; David Henderson, Lauren Scovern (Ken), Victoria Higbee (Rob), Christopher Mull (Morgan), Bethany Bailey, Taylor Haray (Chris), Max and Owen Henderson, six great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law; Eda Henderson and Carolyn Dillon, one brother-in-law Basil "Bud" Brownfield, several nieces and nephews.
