John Francis Balega

John F. Balega, 77, of New Florence, died Sunday October 22, 2023 at his home. He was born March 28, 1946 in Latrobe, the son of the late John Balega Jr. and Helen P. Yumin Balega.

John was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Bradenville and was a proud US Marine Veteran having served in Vietnam and had a hundred percent disability from his time served. He was a Past Commander and member of the Ligonier VFW Post #734 and Ligonier American Legion Post #267 and enjoyed playing Santa Claus at the holidays. John had previously worked at Latrobe Steel, was an avid Steeler Fan, and loved being with family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Charlotte Krinock.

He is survived by his loving wife Constance Marcinik Balega, a sister Karen Klotz (Roger) of Punta Gorda, Florida, his special Sheep dog Patch, a special niece Ronna Schrum (John) of Mt. Airy, Maryland and there children; Michael, Rebekah, Jeffrey and Rachael and several other nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Thursday from 4-7pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier.

The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated Friday at 10am at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Bradenville.

Interment will be made in the church cemetery with military honors.
