John J. Walkinshaw, 78, of Derry, died Friday September 20, 2024 at his home with his beloved wife of almost 56 years at his side. He was born June 30, 1946 in Latrobe a son of the late Paul and Ida Erwin Walkinshaw.
John was a lifelong member of the Derry Presbyterian Church where he had worked tirelessly for the good of the church and had served as a deacon and elder. He was a proud US Army Veteran having served his country for almost thirty years belonging to the 1004 Quarter Master, retired from Latrobe Steel and had worked at Classic Industries. John had an infectious smile and always thought the best of everyone. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, crossword puzzles and his house cats.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Robert Walkinshaw.
He is survived by his loving wife Sandra Wayda Walkinshaw, his son Brad Walkinshaw, sister in laws; Roseann Walkinshaw, Donna Popelish (John) and Debbie Pezzoni (Mark), several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 4-7 pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry. (John preferred not to have flowers) Additional viewing will be Wednesday from 10-11 am at the Derry Presbyterian Church with his service to begin at 11 am with his pastor the Reverend Larry Armstrong officiating. Private interment will be made in the Coles Cemetery, Derry.

The Latrobe-Derry Veterans Honor Guard will present a service Tuesday at 6:45 pm in the funeral home.
