Joseph W. Wilkinson, 86, of Derry, died Friday February 7, 2025 at his home. He was born January 4, 1939 in Latrobe, son of the late Joseph W. Wilkinson Jr. and Dorothy A. Fleck Wilkinson.
Joe was a seventy-four- year member of the Derry First United Methodist Church, was a graduate of: Derry Area High School, the USMC Atomic, Biological and Chemical Warfare School and the Allegheny Technical Institute. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1964 and had worked for over forty years as a lab technician at Blairsville Westinghouse. Joe enjoyed exercising at the gym, fishing, watching college football, working around the house, traveling (having been in all 50 states and 27 countries), but most importantly hanging out with his grandchildren Nick, Aaron, Luke and Lola. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Amvets and the Westinghouse Blairsville Veterans Association.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Glenna C. Ferguson Wilkinson, sisters Dorothy Iris Wilkinson and Helen L. Spillar, brother-in-law Gerald Spillar and his son-in-law Robert "Rob" DeMayo.
Joe is survived by his wife Imelda, daughter Heather A. DeMayo of Greensburg, son Joseph Ross Wilkinson (Gina) of Springfield, PA, grandchildren; Nicholas J. DeMayo (Gabby), Aaron R. DeMayo, Luke J. and Lola Wilkinson, aunt Valetta Fleck, nephew Cory Spillar (Erin), nieces Kristin Crinocli (Tom) and Jahna Mirasol (Nonoy), honorary grandsons; Rilan, Jahan and Jacen Mirasol. In-laws in the Philippines; Elsa Demin, Deony and Norberto Cabaorad and Fleonor Pablan.
Friends will be received Thursday from 4-7 pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry, where a service will be conducted Friday at 11am with Pastor Tom Shrum officiating. Interment will follow in the Coles Cemetery, Derry.
The Latrobe-Derry Veterans Honor Guard will present a service Thursday at 6:45 pm in the funeral home.
