Katherine “Kay” Kittey Roddy, 84, of Ligonier, passed away peacefully July 15, 2024 surrounded by family. She was born May 25, 1940 in Wilpen, a daughter of the late Anna (Miglas) Kittey and Charles Kittey.
After studying art at the University of Pittsburgh, Katherine brought imagination and creativity to everything she touched. A former employee of Westland Sewing Factory, Katherine also worked decorating store windows, cake decorating, flower arranging, and for several private families in the Ligonier Valley throughout the years. A life-long lover of learning, Katherine enjoyed traveling and studying art with her daughter, Jill.
But perhaps her favorite travel companions were her grandchildren. Whether it was to the beach, a swim meet or an amusement park, their “GiGi” wanted to spend every possible minute with Roddy and Kinsey-Ann. She fought cancer with strength, bravery and grace, all for the chance to spend a few more minutes with them.
In addition to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lowell Roddy, her siblings Charlie Kittey, Thomas Kittey, Ann (John) Gross, George (Josephine) Kittey , Margaret (Paul) Topeka, Rose Lape, Sylvia (Paul) Kvochko, and Elizabeth (Milt) Thomas, several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jill Marcincavage and husband Marcus of East McKeesport and her beloved grandchildren, Roddy and Kinsey-Ann. She is also survived by her siblings, Irene (William) Zajdel of Greensburg, Mary Nicholson of St Louis, and Steve (Rebecca) Kittey of Houston, several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the “dream team” from Heartland Hospice, Carmella, Judy, and Dennis. Your love and care made the situation bearable. We would also like to thank all of our Roddy and Marcincavage family for being there throughout her battle and to all of our friends who have reached out and offered their support and help through the ordeal.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Katherine’s favorite charity, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
At her request all services were to be private.
