Kevin Poultney Kinkead, 69 of Johnstown, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2026, surrounded by his daughters and his loving wife.
Born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, on October 25, 1956, Kevin was the only child of the late Elvira M. Kinkead. He was a 1974 graduate of Hampton High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University in 1978. He then went on to study medicine at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, graduating in 1989. He completed his residency at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh in 1993 and practiced as an Anesthesiologist until he retired in June 2022.
Kevin was many things in his life. He was a Paramedic for the City of Pittsburgh. He helped to found the Richland Township EMS in Allegheny County, building it from the ground up. He also served in the Army Reserve Medical Corps, honorably discharged with the rank of Major.
Kevin was a Trekkie to his core, with some of his favorite pastimes including spending time at Star Trek conventions and reciting episodes verbatim. He leaves behind a large collection of Star Trek memorabilia and a deep love of Star Trek in the hearts of his children. He also loved decorating for Christmas, frequently making his house a highlight of holiday light enthusiasts and the bane of his neighbors who had to navigate the slow traffic. He had a smile and a laugh that was contagious. Despite his obsessive love for all versions of "A Christmas Carol," he was hardly ever a Scrooge. He loved classic country and folk music and never passed up an opportunity to respond with a song lyric in any situation.
In 2015, he reconnected with the love of his life, Sue Wolfe, who he married on November 12, 2016. He spent the last 10 years traveling with Sue by his side to places in the country and the world he never dreamed of seeing.
Kevin was a father who loved his daughters fiercely. He was a grandfather to two wild and wonderful grandsons. He had a kindness and generosity that had no bounds that attracted many "adopted" family members and children whom he loved as much as his own family.
Kevin is survived by his wife and soul mate, Sue, his mother-in-law, Judith Geortz, his daughters Amanda Schrader (Josh), Duncannon, State Representative Emily Kinkead, Pittsburgh, and two grandsons, Harrison and Nathan Schrader. He is also survived by his uncle, Sedric "Gib" Roberts, Ligonier, as well as cousins, extended family, and many lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Elvira, his Father-in-Law, Lee "Bumpy" Geortz, his aunt, Naomi Bowling, and his cousin Frank Bowling.
Services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, at McCabe Funeral Home, 144 E. Main Street, Ligonier, PA 15658. Visitation from 10 am to 1 pm with service to follow. Immediate family will escort Kevin to the cemetery. We invite everyone else to join us at the Ramada by Wyndham Ligonier, 216 West Loyalhanna Street, Ligonier, PA 15658, for a gathering to spend time laughing and sharing memories of Kevin as he would expect of us. Casual attire is encouraged.
