Margaret (Peggy) Cleland, nee Greene, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on July 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. A service will be held July 15 at 10:00am at the Ridgeview Park Church in Derry, PA.
Peggy was born on January 26, 1947, in the town of Wilkinsburg Pennsylvania. Peggy was the daughter of the late William B. and Virginia S. Greene and graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1964. Peggy, her four sisters, and their parents spent many summers at their cottage in Ridgeview Park which is where she met her husband of 47 years. Peggy met Bruce Cleland at Ridgeview Park as young children and shared their first kissed when Peggy was just twelve years old. They dated on and off for years, finally marrying when she was 19, and remaining married until Bruce’s death in 2013. Peggy and Bruce moved around the states while he was in the Navy and for his career after his Naval career including Texas, Florida, Illinois, California, and the island of Guam. Even with all their travel, Ridgeview Park held a special place in Peggy’s life. It was where she grew up with her sisters every summer, where she met the love of her life, and where they brought their children up every summer after that.
Grateful for having shared in Peggy’s life are her children Jeffrey B. Cleland (Kimberly) and their two children Tristan and Kelsey; Julie M. Lusk (David) and their three children Brady (Katie), Amanda (Duncan) and Chase; Jody L. Dawson (Patrick) and their three children Blake, Matthew and Mitchell. Peggy also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren Nolan and Kennedy. She is survived by her two sisters Sally Trim (Lloyd) and Katherine Conn (Frank) and many nieces and nephews. Peggy was preceded in death by her sisters Virginia Enterline and Barbra Piechowicz.
Peggy was very dedicated to her family and friends and touched the lives of all who knew her. Her departure leaves a void in our hearts but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us forever.
In lieu of flower a contribution can be made in Peggy’s name to the American Diabetes Association or American Lung Association.
