Mary Tragos Obituary

Mary A. Tragos (Kristopaitis), 94, of Derry passed away Friday, June 13, 2025 peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. She was born February 18,1931 in Swissvale, the daughter of the late Anton and Helen (Marchunus) Kristopaitis, who immigrated from Lithuania. She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, George A. Tragos II. Mary lived a long, faith-filled life. A beautiful and elegant soul, she led with kindness and a deep devotion to her family.

Mary graduated from Swissvale High School in 1949 and in her youth enjoyed competitive ice skating. Before moving to Derry in 1956, she was employed with Labuskes & Sons Jewelers.

Mary worked alongside her husband in the family’s downtown Derry store while raising their three children and loved to decorate the storefront windows for each season and holiday. When her children were grown she became the office manager for McCreary Insurance Agency.

A devout Catholic, Mary was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish and enjoyed giving back to her community. She was a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years, often delivering food every day to those in need.

Mary was an avid swimmer and looked forward to the family’s annual summer trips to Ocean Isle, North Carolina. Her needlework was exceptional and she loved spending her free time crocheting and knitting. In her later years, she also took great pride and joy in caring for her cats. Most of all, Mary adored her family—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Kristopaitis; and brothers Ernest Kristopaitis and Victor Kristopaitis. In addition to her husband, surviving are a daughter Karen M. Kane (Alan) and sons George A. Tragos III and Aaron S. Tragos, DO; grandchildren Alexis Tragos (Robert Stockard) and Carson Tragos (Haley Wedow); and great-grandsons Jack Stockard and Oliver Stockard; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received Monday, June 16 from 4-7 pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry. At the family’s request funeral services will be private and interment will be in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.mccabefuneralhomespa.com.
