Nevin Bossart Obituary

Nevin Frederick Bossart, age 72, of Laughlintown, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 21, 2024. A man of great heart, Nevin lived a purposeful life filled with his love of cooking, painting & constant learning, all while conquering many health challenges.

His early career as a Chef with Clydes Corporation in Washington, D.C. gave him and his team the opportunity to please the palates of thousands and brought him countless cherished friends. When asked, “What is your favorite dish to serve?” Nevin always answered, “Taking care of my staff. They are the most important ingredient to good food.”

After a bout with cancer in 2005, Nevin was blessed with a chance to pursue his passion for painting when he joined the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center Arts & Humanities program under the direction of his dear friend Nancy Morgan. Numerous sunflower collages, painted in partnership with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital staff, adorn the hospital walls as well as at the Macmillan Cancer Centre in Belfast, Northern Ireland where he visited four summers offering his “Art & Conversation” painting lessons. He showed his art at several galleries in D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

A lover of music, be it classical, opera, jazz, or more often the Beatles, it was a constant in his home. He was so proud of his family’s history and sharing stories of working at Fort Ligonier and Compass Inn as a youth. Nevin found refuge in his paintings, joy in his cooking for others, excitement in watching the Pittsburgh Steelers & golf, but most of all, he loved the time spent with family & friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Betsy; his brother Eleftherios “Lefty” Pistentis and wife Jean of Greensburg; Sister in Law Susen Douglass of Louisburg, NC; Sister in Law Melissa Shelk (John) of Delray Beach, Fla; Brother in law Robert Wolford, Jr (Valerie) of Rougemont, NC; and Brother in law William Wolford (Carol) of Ligonier, Pa.  Nevin adored his many nieces and nephews and their children and valued every moment he shared with them; Nicholas Pistentis (wife Liz and children Will and Molly); Alenna Condran ( husband Chance and children Julian and Brooks); Michael Pistentis (wife Mel and children James, Ethan and Gemma); Katie Williams (Ted and children Nathan, Sydney and Lilly); Rachel DuBose (husband Nick and children Andrew and Will); Abby Douglass; Jules Wolford (Kayley); Jessica Jeffrey (husband Vin and children Caroline and Vincent); and Christina Senger (husband Adam). He is proceeded in death by his parents Fred and Helen Bossart and Sister in Law and Brother in Law Connie and Dr. Ross Williams.

Special thanks to all the caring and committed health care workers at Fresenius Kidney Care and Dr. Walid Kassir; Dr. Mark Ray; Greater Pittsburgh Surgery; Latrobe Family Medical Group; Latrobe Independence Health System; Dr. Tesfayohannes of Georgetown Pain Management and to all the friends and family who have offered encouragement and support over the years.

Friends will be received Friday from 4-7pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier, where a service will be conducted Saturday at 10am with the Reverend Jordan L. Harris officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please practice Nevin’s compassion for treating everyone with kindness a
