Randolph George "Randy" Cox

Randolph George "Randy" Cox, 67,of Somerset,  passed away on October 24, 2024, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a battle with cancer.
Randy was born in Latrobe, PA on December 20, 1956, to George William Cox and Evelyn L (Piper) Cox.
Randy assumed the position of Chief of the Somerset Police Department on August 9, 2004. Prior to coming to Somerset he was the Chief of Police in Ligonier, PA for fourteen years. He began his career in law enforcement in 1977 and is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with an AA in 1979 and a BA in 1981. His graduate studies have been through the University of Virginia.
Chief Cox is a graduate of the 204th Session of the FBI National Academy. In addition to his duties in Somerset, he is an instructor with the Westmoreland County Community College Police Academy, an Adjunct Instructor with Penn State - Fayette, and an Assessor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. Chief Cox is a member of the Western Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association and the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, where he serves on the PCPA Legislative Committee. Randy was also in Instructor in the WCCC Police Academy. 
Randy is preceded in death by his parents and various Aunts & Uncles. Randy is survived by his wife, Jannie; Step-Son Michael S McKay, II (Lance); Brother-in-law Bradley E Smith (Melissa); and Sister-in-law Paula S Columbus (Jim). 
Randy loved his family, including our many Pups, his friends, his Officers & Staff, and Law Enforcement in general. He will be sorely missed by many.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 3rd, from 1-4 at the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier. A Memorial Services will be Saturday November 16, 2024 at St. Michael's of the Valley Episcopal Church, Rector at 2 pm.
