Ronald McLean Obituary

Ronald Lee McLean 87, of Ligonier, died Friday December 6, 2024 at Independence Health System Latrobe. He was born May 5, 1937 in Ligonier, a son of the late Homer and Mary Carns McLean.
Ron grew up in Ligonier, was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ and was a United States Air Force Veteran serving from 1955-1959. His working career consisted of 20 years as a whip for the Rolling Rock Hunt (playing a huge role in preparing for the Rolling Rock Races every year), working in the maintenance department at the Volkswagen Plant and ending his career as a caretaker for a private estate. He was an avid baseball player growing up and went on to play for the Travis AFB and continuing to play baseball when he returned to Ligonier mainly as a pitcher. His favorite past time's  were always training and breeding Coon Hounds and Squirrel Dogs, watching baseball and football. He was a lifetime member of the T.T.B.B.A., a member of the Laurel Highlands Coon and Squirrel Club and the American Legion.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Eva J. McLean, his brother Richard McLean, his sister Sandra Kelly and a son in law John P. Ellenberger.
Ron is survived by his children; Lon McLean, Bobbi Ellenberger, Ronale McLean all of Ligonier, Shawn McLean (Dawn) of Murrysville, Jody McLean (Mary) and Michele Clark (Rick) all of Ligonier. Ten Grandchildren, ten great grandchildren (one due any day).
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 am at the Oak Grove Church of Christ. (Everyone is asked to go directly to the church)
Interment will be made at the Menoher Memorial Cemetery.

The Ligonier Valley Veterans Honor Guard will present a military service Tuesday at 7 pm in the funeral home.
