Shawn Michael McLean 61, passed away Wednesday July 15, 2026 at his home.
It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce his passing, a man known for his big smile, unmistakable presence, generous heart, and the confidence and charisma that made him unforgettable.
Shawn fought a courageous and determined battle with glioblastoma for nearly five years. Through every challenge, he showed the same grit, strength, and determination that defined the way he lived his life. He fought hard because that was who Shawn was—he never gave up.
Shawn grew up in Ligonier, PA, where he seemed to know just about everyone—and everyone knew him. His big blue eyes, quick smile, and unmistakable presence could light up a room. He had a way of making friends wherever he went. He was confident and a little cocky in the best way, but always genuine and humble when it mattered most. He worked hard, showed up for the people he loved, and gave without expecting anything in return.
A dedicated and highly respected carpenter and foreman, Shawn took tremendous pride in his work. He was known as one of the hardest workers on any job site and earned the respect of coworkers, friends, and his employer, Gulisek Construction, who stood by him steadfastly throughout his illness. Building things with his hands was more than a career—it was a reflection of who he was.
Shawn proudly served his country for more than 20 years in the National Guard, including a deployment to Italy. The friendships he made through his service meant everything to him. His Army brothers were family, and he loved them fiercely.
Shawn was a proud father to his daughters, Sara and Sydney, and a supportive bonus dad to Valerie. He adored his granddaughter Lily and his bonus grandchildren Maddie and Carmelo, bringing his big heart, laughter, and unmistakable smile into their lives.
For the past 16 years, Shawn shared his life with his beloved Dawn. Their journey together was built on love, humor, friendship, and unwavering support through every season of life.
Shawn leaves behind countless friends, his beloved Army brothers, coworkers who became family, his beloved Dawn, siblings Lon, Bobbi, Ronale, Jody, and Michelle, his daughters Sara and Sydney, bonus daughter Valerie, and grandchildren Lily, Maddie, and Carmelo.
If Shawn could say one more thing to all of us, it would probably be: “It’s go time! Don’t worry—I’ll see you again. I’ll be waiting to give you a big hug and share a beer… or two, or three, so I will.”
Friends and family will be received on Monday, July 20th from 3:00–5:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier. A memorial service honoring Shawn’s life, including military honors, will be held during the evening visitation period.
Interment will be held privately at Twin Valley Memorial Park and Mausoleum cemetery in Delmont, PA, on Tuesday morning.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ligonier Township VFD #1 (Waterford), 44 Fire Hall Road, Ligonier, PA 15658.
