It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, mother-in -law and grandmother Shirley Bassi on Thursday November 6, 2025
Shirley was born to John and Jean Williams February 9, 1936 in Wilkinsburg PA, where following high school went on to work at Union Switch and Signal in Pittsburgh. She later moved to Ligonier where she met Leo J. Bassi. They married December 8, 1955 and went on to birth and raise 3 wonderful daughters.
Shirley was a 70 year member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ligonier, where she served on many committees and groups in the church. One of her favorite Catholic faith pilgrimages was to visit Medjugorje Bosnia in 1988 to visit the site of the apparition of The Virgin Mary.
After raising her family, Shirley enjoyed a second career as Dining Room Manager at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier and retired after 25 years at the club.
Shirley was predeceased by babies Leona in 1963 and Tracy Jo in 1965, son in law Dr. Timothy O. Brunatti in 1997 and husband Leo Joseph Bassi in 2004.
Shirley is survived by her brother John "Bill" Williams of Florida, daughter Terri (Kim) Bassi-Cook of Latrobe, daughter Linda B. (Pete) Horrell of Ligonier and daughter Lisa J. Bassi of Latrobe. She is also survived by Granddaughter Alyssa B. (Lucas) Boyd of Ligonier and step-grandson Neal Horrell and family of Naples Florida and step-granddaughter Tracey Greene and family of Sanford North Carolina. Shirley was blessed with devoted family, friends and neighbors who enriched her life and memories as she did for all of those she touched.
A Catholic Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on November 14, 2025 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ligonier with Father Anthony Carbone as celebrant.
Interment will be at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery in Latrobe, burial services will be private. Burial arrangements are provided by McCabe Funeral Home of Ligonier.
The family would like to thank the staff of Concordia Bethlen Home of Ligonier for the loving care of Shirley for the past four years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westmoreland County Food Bank or Community Service of the parish.
