Stephen Ferlan Obituary

Stephen J. Ferlan, 87, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. Steve was born in Forest Hills to his beloved parents, the late Lawrence and Margaret Ferlan, on May 1, 1937. He graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1955. Steve was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Ligonier.

He married Sara (Sally) Keefe, the love of his life, and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage.

Prior to moving to Ligonier in 1996, Steve had been employed by Westinghouse Nuclear Power Division for forty years where he earned 24 U.S. Patents involving the design of tooling for refueling nuclear reactors. Steve was a brilliant man who willingly shared his knowledge in all things with whomever wanted to learn. He was comfortable with building fine furniture or restoring antique engines and tractors. He was a faithful and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived his life with honesty and integrity. Steve was a skilled woodworker who designed and built their home. This multi-talented man will not be forgotten.

Survivors include his wife Sara, daughter Laura and her husband John Schmid of Pittsburgh, son Steve and his wife Patrice of Ligonier, and grandchildren Alex, Emma, Colin, and Goran Ferlan. He is predeceased by his brother Dr. Lawrence Ferlan and survived by his sister-in-law Joan Ferlan and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Friday, December 27, 2024, from 4-7pm at the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier.  A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11am at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Ligonier.
