Vernon Arthur Carey

Vernon Arthur Carey, 78, of Ligonier, died Thursday, January 16, 2025 at his home.  He was born September 12, 1946 in Greensburg, a son of the late Wray and Dorothy Ann Carey.  Vernon was a 1964 graduate of Hempfield Area High School.  He retired in 2006 from Dominion Peoples Natural Gas after 34 years of service. Vernon was a member and past Master of LaMonte Lodge 568, Derry.  He was also a member and past Potentate of Jaffa Shrine in Altoona where he was involved in many clubs and the Lil' Vettes Unit.  He was a member of the Thomas B. Anderson Royal Arch Chapter 309 in Latrobe, a member of the Blairsville Elks, Twin Maples Hunt Club and the Somerset Eagles.  Vernon is survived by his wife Billie (Achtziger) Carey of 47 years and his daughters Ann Marie (Scott) Spiker, Jennifer Carey and Rachel Duff, grandchildren Kayla (Derek) Reckart, Meagan (Tommy) Haskiell, Abby (Chase) Spiker, Ryan Spiker, Haley and Madison Duff; great grandchildren Blake and Natalie Reckart and Chasetin Haskiell, sisters Kimberly Welc and Judy (Mike) Adams and two nephews.  In addition to his parents Vernon was preceded in death by son-in-laws John M. Duff Jr. and Andrew M. Werner.
Family will receive friends Saturday, January 25, from 11am to 1pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, Derry where a memorial service will be held at 1pm with the LaMonte Lodge No. 568 and Rev.
