Vernon Wechtenhiser Obituary

Vernon Charles Wechtenhiser, 83, of Latrobe, passed away peacefully Friday August 16, 2024 at his home. He was born September 30, 1940 in Johnstown the son of the late Vernon Charles  and Renee Sebesky Wechtenhiser.
Vern was catholic by faith and was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Derry. He had retired from the Latrobe Police Department in 1990 and had held memberships in the following organizations; Knights of Columbus St. Joseph & St. Martin Council 2628, the Kingston Veterans & Sportsmen's Club, the Derry Rod & Gun Club, Twin Maples Hunt Club, the Fraternal Order of Police Council 23, the North American Hunt Club, the American Legion Post #982, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the National Rifle Association. Many of his enjoyments came from cruises and being an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step father Tony Logar.
Vern is survived by the love of his life Elizabeth Mary Long Wechtenhiser whom he married July 1, 1961, his four children; Elizabeth (Betsy) Grill (Daniel) of Penfield, William Wechtenhiser (Valerie Ann) of Latrobe, Susan Flowers (Jeffrey) of Latrobe and Stephen Wechtenhiser (Sheila) of Reynolds Station, KY, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends will be received Sunday from 4-7pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 2pm at St. Joseph Church, Derry with Father Salvatore R. Lamendola as celebrant. Private interment will be made in the Richland Cemetery, Johnstown.

The Knights of Columbus will present a service Sunday at 7pm in the funeral home.
Memorials are asked to be made to Sisters of Charity Seton Hill, 144 DePaul Center, Greensburg or St. Joseph Church, Derry.
