Dear Sunny,
I did not realize until yesterday, when I drove through Derry and stopped at the store looking for you, that Ron was your husband.
I never read the obituary other than to see that someone even younger had passed. I am so sorry for your loss. As you know, my mom passed in February, 2016, so I know that this is awful for you.
Praying for the best, Valeria Saffer

Scripture tells us "in love serve one another." Ron personified that love because he served family, friends, and some he had never met. A year ago Juliana, our 3-yr- old granddaughter from CA, was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on her kidney. When Ron heard that, he rushed holy water blessed by Pope John Paul II to our daughter Kelly who works at Westinghouse to be taken the next morning to CA by my wife. Post- surgery was very difficult for Juliana, and she struggled to get out of bed. On the 3rd day after the removal of the tumor and her kidney, my wife visited her in the hospital, blessed her with the holy water, and she almost miraculously improved. In fact, she was discharged the next day, 3 days earlier than expected, and went home to recover. Throughout the next 4 months of chemo, she would ask to be blessed with Ron's holy water, seemingly realizing its beneficial effects. "Today Juliana is cancer free and healthier than ever, and to Ron we are eternally grateful." Ron's legacy is the unconditional love that he showed for others. To family, friends, acquaintances - remember Ron by imitating his life of service to others. Pat

I am a retired engineer from SMP and I worked with Ron on many projects in my 34 years at SMP, Ron was a talented craftsman, a pleasure to work with. When my wife had cancer, Ron always asked how was she doing and that she was in his prayers. When she passed in 2001, Ron was a great listener when I need to talk about her and the grief I was going through. I will always remember his compassionate caring and concern as I processed my grief. Sunny, you and your family are in my prayers and may the Our Lord give you the strength to deal with your loss. God bless.

I am so sorry for your losss. I knew Ron from the IBEW. At my last Progress Meeting in Atlantic City before I tetired, Ron touched my life when he gave me Holy Water blessed by the Pope for Paul and my autistic grandson. His story of how it cured his daughter and he then paid it forward in life was nothing short of amazing. The following morning, I did the COPE awards and prizes and Ron was the first one to win. Chance? I don't think so. I turned 60 that week and there were a couple of things that came together, culminating with Ron's generosity and story, that truly changed my life. Even though he was a 3rd degree black belt, he was the kindest, gentlest and caring man I have ever met. The world is a worse place today without him in it.

Occasionally you hear the term "SMP Family" used around Blairsville Westinghouse. If you were to look that up in a dictionary, Ron's smiling face would be next to it. He was a brother to many in that plant, regardless of your position or stature. And we've no doubt that was only magnified throughout his family and community beyond our walls. Our sincere condolences to his family and many friends. It is a tremendous, very sudden loss -- but his legacy will live on in many.

I am profoundly sad at this loss of a friend and classmate. I can't recall seeing Ronnie without his infectious smile. He was positive, kind and a friend to all. The class of 1976 could have chosen no better to lead us through our senior year and cement our close connection for the next 40 years. My sincere condolences to his wife Sunny and daughters. Gone too soon, but will never be forgotten.

Ron and I graduated together in th Derry Area Class of 1976. As I moved away to the west coast, I hadn't seen Ron until our class reunion in August. When I walked in that door, the first thing I saw was that happy, smiling face moving toward me with a huge welcoming hug, genuinely glad to see me.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Ron Shine was one of the nicest people I've had the privilege to know in my lifetime. It was no surprise he was our class president, but unlike some Ron never let it go to his head. He was friends with everyone, and I don't think he ever had an unkind word to say about anything.

I am so glad to have had the chance to see Ron in August and so sad to know he is gone. My sincere prayers and sympathies to his wife, his children, and all of his family. Please find some comfort in how much Ron was loved and will be missed.
